The 2016 Forester is available in six trims. So call it what you will - just remember the Forester, like all Subarus, features all-wheel drive and longstanding devotion from Subaru aficionados. But it still exhibits more car-like characteristics than larger SUVs. I’ve tested both the Subaru Outback and Forester, and the Forester is a bit smaller and less expensive than the Outback. However, I wouldn’t fault you if you describe the 2016 Subaru Forester as a big wagon, either. The 2016 Forester is more of a compact crossover than a wagon. It also makes it easy to find five good reasons to drive Subaru’s tallest crossover. Perhaps that’s why Subarus are as common in snowy climates as Gore-Tex coats and snowboards. The Forester was exceptionally planted and solid in the nastiest of conditions. Snow was flying in all directions and I was able to test this all-wheel-drive crossover in rainy, snowy and icy conditions. Hard to compete with that.Redesigned in 2014 and more attractive and capable than ever before, the 2016 Subaru Forester was an ideal vehicle when a raging blizzard hit Salt Lake City during my Monday commute. But that's because google map and waze are both good and free. Will I pay for it if the nav is sold separately? No. In short, I find the car nav to be adequate. It's painfully slow and, more often than not, inaccurate. If you are used to interact with Siri, you will find the voice recognition in the car frustrating.

Entering full address by voice is next to impossible. Easier if the address is already saved under Favorite, because then I can just ask it to go to "destination", "favorite" and then say the line number where the address is stored in. The voice command system is patchy, as previously mentioned by others above.

Plus the direction is also displayed right by the speedometer. With the car nav I like the fact that I can view the map on a larger screen instead of on my phone.

(probably my phone, not the map per se, but you know what I mean). It froze on me once, right when I needed it.

In general google map is still better, but it is not 100% glitch free either. Still use Google map when I go to places where I am not familiar with the traffic pattern. It has never helped me to avoid traffic, ever. It tells me there is traffic jam coming up when there is none at all. I found the traffic report fairly useless. Very useful when finding a friend's house at night. It does well in telling me where I am, even displaying the house numbers on my left and right. Some folks in this forum will have opposite view on this and find the map to be outdated. Used it side by side with Google map on my phone for the first few weeks, but I stopped doing that because it mostly give me exactly the same route anyway.

There is a stretch of road near where I live where the speed limit changes from 30 to 45, and the nav displays the changes right when I pass the sign.

Even the speed limit info is quite accurate. But then I tried it and my first impression was: "It is actually not all that bad."įor where I am (NYC and Westchester) the map seems to be fairly accurate. When I got my car I had very low expectation when it comes to the nav, primarily because I read what the good folks in this forum wrote about it.
